OPERATOR III - WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

Requirements include a high school diploma or G.E.D., age 18 or older, ability to obtain a Wastewater Class III Operator License within 12 months, and no criminal record. The selected individual will serve a 12‑month probationary period in on‑the‑job training.

• Inspect equipment regularly to ensure it is in proper condition, maintaining operation at demand capacity and achieving desired water purity and potability.
• Monitor daily log records, gauges, meters, and other plant testing and measuring devices to ensure equipment functions per prescribed standards.
• Participate in maintenance of plant equipment, reporting mechanical defects to the plant foreman.
• Keep motors, pumps, and machines oiled and in good repair, backwash filters, and clean sedimentation basins and plant equipment as needed.
• Maintain equipment, buildings, and grounds in a clean and orderly condition and perform all other duties as assigned.

• Understand and carry out oral instructions, acquire skill with equipment, operate machinery safely, read meters and charts, maintain operational records, and ensure water quality standards are met.
• Understand occupational hazards and necessary precautions, and work under limited supervision.

• Use of hand tools, electrical tools, and other normal machinery used in wastewater purification operations.
• Possess or be able to obtain a Georgia Operators License and a Georgia Class III certification in water purification plant operation within the required time frame.

Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school or equivalency, supplemented by experience in wastewater plant operation or related equipment and machinery, or an equivalent combination of training and experience to meet certification requirements.

Work involves standing, climbing, walking, and frequent heavy lifting. It is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, sometimes in cramped, underground areas, with exposure to chemicals, gases, and high noise levels.
