Position PurposeUnder the general supervision of the High School Principal, the High School English Teacher is responsible for developing students' reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills. The teacher delivers rigorous, engaging instruction that fosters literary analysis, effective communication, creativity, and thoughtful engagement with diverse texts while supporting the academic, spiritual, and covenant mission of Providence.

Essential Functions- Develops and implements a comprehensive high school English curriculum aligned with school goals and academic standards.
- Creates a classroom environment that is safe, welcoming, and conducive to whole-group, small-group, seminar-style, and individualized learning.
- Designs lesson plans and instructional materials that promote close reading, analytical thinking, effective writing, research skills, and meaningful discussion.
- Instructs students in high school English courses, which may include Literature, Composition, American Literature, British Literature, World Literature, Creative Writing, or Advanced Placement coursework as assigned.
- Encourages critical analysis of fiction and nonfiction texts, thoughtful interpretation, and evidence-based writing.
- Teaches grammar, vocabulary development, rhetoric, and research methodologies appropriate to grade level.
- Integrates technology and instructional tools to enhance student engagement, collaboration, and publication of student work.
- Assesses student learning using formal and informal methods; provides timely, constructive feedback on writing and performance tasks; analyzes data to inform instruction and support diverse learning needs, including those of students with special needs.
- Provides individual and small-group instruction to support differentiated learning.
- Prepares students for standardized assessments, writing competitions, speech presentations, and post-secondary literacy readiness as appropriate.
- Participates in ongoing professional development through workshops, conferences, seminars, and continued study of best practices in English and literacy education.

Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in English, English Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Strong content knowledge across high school English curricula and literary traditions.

- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
