Regional Literacy Coach Position

Regional Literacy Coaches will provide literacy coaching, support, and related services to local school systems and public schools within the Northeast Georgia RESA (NGRESA) service area. Regional coaches will work in full cooperation with the Georgia Literacy Coordinating Committee, the Georgia Director of Literacy, and the Georgia Literacy Coach Coordinator.

The minimum duties for Regional Literacy Coaches shall include, but are not limited to:

• Coaching educators using non-evaluative, evidence-based practices, including modeling instruction, analyzing instructional practice and data, providing actionable feedback, and delivering side-by-side classroom support.
• Collaborating with school principals, school-based literacy coaches, and representatives of the Georgia Department of Education and the Governor’s Office of Education and Workforce Strategy.
• Providing ongoing support to local school systems and public schools for effective implementation and continuous improvement of comprehensive literacy programs.
• Delivering professional learning opportunities and materials for teachers and literacy coaches, including research-based training on the science of reading and curriculum implementation.
• Analyzing student data, including screening, diagnostic, and progress-monitoring data, to inform instruction, grouping, and intervention within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.
• Demonstrating competency through approved, periodic, practice-based assessments that verify the ability to apply the science of reading, learning science, and instructional science to deliver explicit, systematic, evidence-based literacy instruction directly with students.

A thorough understanding of the following is essential:

• Reading processes, acquisition, assessment, and instruction.
• Systematic and explicit instructional practices.
• Instructional coaching approaches and strategies for adult learners.
• Scientific reading research and its application to effective classroom instruction, intervention, and literacy practices.
• Georgia’s K–12 English Language Arts Standards.
• Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
• Data analysis and data-driven decision-making.

• Valid Georgia teaching or service certificate at Level 4 or higher.
• Minimum of five years of documented successful classroom teaching or literacy intervention experience at the assigned grade levels.
• Knowledge of scientifically based reading research, quality reading instruction and intervention, dyslexia-specific interventions, and data analysis.
