Job Summary

The RN Clinical Periop Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high‑quality, safe patient care. The team is administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and is supported through the Well Star Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the Well Star Professional Practice Model, 5-Star Nursing and evidence‑based practice and research.

RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Well Star Core Competencies. All RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, the individual upholds the voice of the patient, follows system policies and procedures, and supports service excellence goals.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Exemplary Practice and Outcomes:
    Performs the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; identification of outcomes; planning; implementation and evaluation) in clinical care using evidence‑based practice, analytical and critical thinking, ensuring that care is individualized and coordinated through effective partnerships.
  • Provides relationship‑based, patient‑centered care consistent with population‑specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) and adapts service delivery to reflect cultural diversity.
  • Partner with the patient and significant others using appropriate methods for setting and purpose (e.g., bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, just‑in‑time and planned patient teaching); keep the patient and significant others updated and focus on the patient’s goals in the plan of care.
  • Uses current clinical practice standards and demonstrates professionalism in the use of evidence and analytical skills.

    Collaboration:

    Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model; completes timely documentation and promotes a respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration in a fiscally responsible manner, promoting recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
  • Participates in and supports performance improvement, research, and the promotion of safe, quality patient care; initiates and leads activities that promote an inter/intra‑disciplinary process and actively supports shared governance at all system levels.
  • Professional Development and Initiative:
    Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population‑specific education.
  • Serves as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses, staff, or students to ensure a qualified workforce and models professional practice of nursing, creating a healthy work environment.
  • Evidence‑Based Practice and Research:
    Promotes evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement; participates in activities such as value analysis to evaluate patient care products.
  • Upholds all healthcare system and organizational policies, procedures, and clinical competencies including legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements and standards such as TJC Patient Safety Goals and Wellstar Health Systems safety absolutes.
