Job Title:
Staff Nurse Specialty Care – Labor & Delivery

Location: Johnson City, NY

Contract Duration: 13 Weeks

Shift: Night Shift (19:00 – 07:00), includes every third weekend

Job Summary

A New York State-designated Level II Trauma Center and Level III Perinatal Center, is seeking a highly skilled Specialty Care Staff Nurse for its Delivery Room. This regional referral center handles high-risk obstetrics and complex maternity cases. The RN will be responsible for assessing and implementing individualized care plans for laboring patients while ensuring compliance with UHS standards and the New York State Nurse Practice Act.

Responsibilities
  • L&D Operations: Manage high-risk obstetric patients, perform vaginal exams, and monitor fetal well-being.
  • Surgical Support: Act as a Circulating Nurse for obstetric surgical procedures (C-sections) within the OR.
  • Patient Advocacy: Serve as a primary or accountable nurse, coordinating care and advocating for the safety and health of mothers and families.
  • Education: Provide health promotion and disease management education to patients and their families.
  • Medication Management: Safely administer medications utilizing a strong working knowledge of pharmacology and UHS policy.
  • Team Leadership: Perform duties related to the Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator role when assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor & Delivery is required. Must have experience circulating in the OR and managing high-risk OB cases.
  • Licensure: Active New York State Registered Nurse License (in hand).
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (AHA, HSI, or ARC)
    • ACLS (AHA)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • FM Certification (Electronic Fetal Monitoring - C-EFM preferred)
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in EPIC charting is required.
Assignment Details & Expectations
  • Unit: Delivery Room (East Wing, 5th Floor).
  • Schedule: 36 hours per week. Night shifts; blocked scheduling is often accommodated based on unit needs.
  • Clinical Setting: A regional referral center for cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, and high-level maternity care with a 24-hour Level III NICU on-site.
  • Staffing: Every third weekend required.
