Registered Nurse (RN)
The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities. Prevention of illness and injury, and alleviation of suffering are prioritized through the diagnosis and treatment of human response and advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN is responsible and accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.
The RN assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care. This includes managing a group of patients and serving as a primary nurse or accountable nurse when designated by unit assignment. Consideration of factors related to safety, effectiveness, competency, cost, and impact is essential. The RN educates patients and families in health promotion and disease management using available resources.
A working knowledge of pharmacology is utilized to safely administer medications. The RN shares responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization. This includes staffing, time management, supplies, and services. The RN complies with all nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements. Active participation in nursing governance and quality improvement initiatives is encouraged. Professional development and continuing nursing education are actively engaged in.
Nursing research and current evidence are integrated into practice. The RN provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students. Other duties as assigned will be performed. Skills required include effective collaboration, communication, judgment, critical thinking, and organization. Experience in cardiac telemetry, managing complex patient situations, and familiarity with specific cardiac interventions and medications are preferred. Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting is advantageous.
