Summary

The Accounting Analyst supports the Director of Accounting with special projects, process improvements, and reporting enhancements. This role is highly analytical and Excel-heavy, producing management reports and variance analysis for a portfolio that includes retail, commercial, storage, and multifamily housing using Yardi and Quick Books. The position also provides backup support to Property Accountants during month-end and quarter-end close and tax season to help meet deadlines and maintain reporting quality.

Key Responsibilities Projects & Process Improvement (Primary)
  • Support the Director of Accounting on special projects (process improvements, system/reporting enhancements, audit readiness).
  • Identify ways to improve efficiency, automate manual work, and strengthen documentation.
  • Help improve Yardi workflows, reporting, and data consistency.
  • Assist with testing and rollout of new templates, reports, and process changes; support other team members as needed.
  • Maintain process documentation and SOPs.
Analysis & Reporting (Primary)
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc leadership reporting, including portfolio rollups, key metrics, and close summaries.
  • Perform monthly/quarterly trend and variance analysis; explain key drivers clearly.
  • Build and maintain Excel models, templates, and dashboards.
  • Pull data, analyze results, and present findings for ad hoc requests.
Close Support (Secondary)
  • Provide backup support during month-end/quarter-end close (review reconciliations, help resolve reconciling items, assist with overflow tasks).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • 6+ years overall accounting experience; 3+ years property accounting experience (mixed portfolio preferred).
  • Mixed portfolio includes: multifamily housing, commercial, storage, retail, and manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of close, reconciliations, and internal controls.
  • Yardi experience.
  • Advanced Excel (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, SUMIFS; Power Query preferred).
