Position Title:

Youth Director, full-time

Position Overview:

The Youth Director is responsible under the leadership of the elders for guiding a vibrant, Christ-centered ministry for students in grades 7 through 12. The Youth Director fosters a welcoming and spiritually engaging environment and thereby leads young people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and equips them to grow as faithful disciples. This involves teaching biblical truth, building one-on-one relationships, praying for students, and partnering closely with parents.

The Youth Director is called to follow Christ in a manner that serves as an example to students. The Youth Director organizes youth programs, trains ministry volunteers, and partners with parents. The Youth Director will plan and participate in some outdoor activities. The Youth Director will sometimes participate in overnight activities and week-long camps and/or mission trips. The Youth Director will coordinate activities with the director of children’s ministries.

Reports to:

Administrator, Elder Board.

Qualifications:

  • A visible, active relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Must manifest the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) and eschew the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21).
  • Clear agreement with the theological beliefs of Heritage Baptist Church.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and relational skills. Must relate well to both teens and adults.
  • Must pass a background check and complete child safety training.
  • MA degree required (MDiv preferred).
  • Must be male because older teen males will be taught (1 Timothy 2:12).
  • Experience in youth ministry leadership or volunteer management preferred.
Ministry to Students
  • Regular attendance at Sunday and Wednesday activities.
  • Share the gospel with the lost on an ongoing basis, both individually and corporately.
  • Develop, promote, and coordinate a balanced plan of activities and discipleship ministry to the youth.
  • Plan and execute an annual calendar of events, including summer camps, discipleship weekends, local service projects and mission trips (including personal participation in overnight and outdoor events).
  • Plan, teach and/or coordinate biblically sound weekly youth group meetings, Sunday School classes, and mid-week Bible studies.
  • Ensure all youth activities are balanced with service, education, and fellowship.
  • Provide spiritual mentorship to teenagers, discipling them through life’s challenges.
  • Encourage youth to participate in the total life of the church and to share their faith in the community.
  • Train and equip youth to reach unsaved youth and families.
  • Involve youth in ministry and short-term mission projects.
  • Be available for individual discipleship and counseling youth.
  • Actively participate with youth in their respective school setting (homeschoolers, private, and public schools).
  • Help prepare students for college or vocational ministry.
Volunteer Training
  • Recruit, train, and manage men and women to lead age-specific ministry teams.
  • Involve the congregation in opportunities to volunteer in student and youth ministry.
Ministry to Parents
  • Encourage parental involvement in youth activities and programming.
  • Actively partner with parents to disciple and minister to their children.
  • Share the gospel with lost parents and welcome them to Heritage and the community.
  • Develop consistent and transparent communication channels (email, social media, apps) to keep parents informed and equipped to disciple their children at home.
Administrative & Safety Oversight
  • Prepare and manage the annual youth ministry budget while keeping accurate financial records.
  • Ensure all church safety protocols, child protection policies, and background screening procedures are strictly enforced.
