Our industrial automation customers rely on a wide array of programmable logic controllers, expansion modules, and automation software to solve complex automation challenges. The System Test organization performs system-wide and product-oriented testing to validate that products under development interoperate successfully across the Siemens automation ecosystem.
System Test team members identify and exercise customer use cases and workflows to evaluate product quality and communicate findings to Development teams. The team also provides testing and test consulting services, assisting Development colleagues in investigating and reproducing customer-reported issues.
Position OverviewThe Test Engineer is responsible for system-wide testing, product-oriented testing, and collaboration with Development teams to ensure release quality and timely response to customer problems. This role contributes directly to investigating and resolving customer issues, helping to protect and enhance the reputation of Siemens and its products.
This position is part of the Johnson City System Test team and collaborates closely with global System Test teams in Germany and China.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with System Test team members to define and execute system-wide and product-oriented test cases based on customer scenarios and workflows
- Investigate customer problem reports by reproducing issues and working with Development teams on resolution
- Record test results in the test management system
- Document test procedures clearly and accurately
- Report testing status and progress to the System Test team manager
- Interface with the team manager to understand backlog priorities and upcoming projects
- Provide testing assistance and consultation to Development teams as requested
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with customer-facing colleagues
- Comply with established FA and local R&D processes
- Propose and implement continuous improvements to testing processes, coverage, and assets
- Automate tests where possible to improve testing efficiency
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Software Development, or a related technical field
- 2+ years of experience in a relevant technical field (e.g., application engineering, hardware or software development, or testing)
- Knowledge of industrial automation products and applications
- Self-motivated and results-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Ability to interface with customer-facing colleagues to understand user workflows and applications
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working in a global development environment
- Understanding of product development processes and full product lifecycle
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies
- Knowledge of test methodologies and best practices
- Experience with industrial automation technologies such as OPC UA, HMI, Industrial Communication, and PROFINET
- Experience with PLC programming languages such as LAD, SCL, or similar
- Experience with C# or similar programming languages
- Experience with Industrial Safety systems (Failsafe PLCs, PROFIsafe communication, etc.)
- Familiarity with test frameworks (e.g., NUnit, MSTest) and source control tools (e.g., Git, TFS)
