IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently looking to hire a CONTROLS ENGINEER for our Johnson City, TN client.
Our client is a global leader in the high-performance battery separators industry. They are currently seeking an Electrical Controls and Instrumentation Engineer to support and enhance plant-wide electrical, automation, and instrumentation systems. This role ensures the performance, maintenance, and continuous improvement of key production assets and associated control systems.
This engineer will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing electrical control systems, instrumentation, and automation infrastructure across the site. The role will involve monitoring KPIs such as system uptime, mean time between failure (MTBF), and preventive maintenance execution for essential plant systems.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Develop plans to modernize control and instrumentation systems using the latest technologies and industry innovations.
Propose and lead initiatives aimed at enhancing uptime, equipment reliability, and process consistency.
Participate in the development and execution of capital improvement projects.
Provide guidance to maintenance and production teams in troubleshooting and resolving automation-related equipment issues.
Support prioritization of maintenance tasks, PM schedules, and continuous improvement activities.
Coach and collaborate with the spare parts coordinator on parts strategy and inventory accuracy.
Draft maintenance documentation and training content, especially for new or modified systems.
Act as a liaison between IT and operations for plant network and system troubleshooting.
Offer support outside regular hours, including some weekends and on-call responsibilities, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office tools.
- Hands-on experience in industrial automation, particularly within high-throughput production environments.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing methodologies and structured maintenance systems.
- Strong background in Siemens PLCs – including installation, programming, and troubleshooting of AC/DC/VFD drives and control loops.
- Ability to interpret ladder logic, P&, and control schematics for systems such as extruders, pump systems, load cells, and tension controls.
- Experience in processes involving extrusion, web handling, or molding technologies is highly desirable.
- Skilled in reviewing and updating electrical and instrumentation documentation (loop drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, etc.).
- Experience with HMI and SCADA software (e.g., WinCC, Wonderware) and data historian tools.
- Exposure to other PLC platforms (Automation Direct, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi) is a plus.
- Competence in configuring and managing industrial network protocols such as Profi Net, Ethernet/IP, Device Net, and TCP/IP.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and support critical maintenance activities and emergency troubleshooting.
