Job Summary

The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) College of Public Health is seeking applications for a nationally recognized leader to serve as Chair in the Department of Biomedical Health Sciences. The Biomedical Health Sciences Chair position is a 12-month faculty position at the level of associate or full professor (tenured or tenure-eligible) at the time of appointment. The College is fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health.

For over fifty years, the College has had a strong working relationship with a wide range of regional partners across the Appalachian Highlands, Tennessee, and the country. The Department of Biomedical Health Sciences is the largest of five departments in the College of Public Health, which is located in the division of ETSU Health. The division also houses the James H.

Quillen College of Medicine, the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, the College of Health Sciences, and the College of Nursing, making ETSU one of only 25 Universities in the United States with Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Public Health.

The Department of Biomedical Health Sciences offers a B.S. in Microbiology and a B.S. in Biomedical Health Sciences with concentrations in Health Sciences & Biomedical Sciences. These are the fastest-growing undergraduate majors on campus, with more than 450 majors enrolled in the program, as well as a large number of students enrolled in our service courses. The Department also offers an Undergraduate Research Honors program, and joint-venture Graduate programs, with the Department of Biological Sciences (M.S. with Microbiology, Biology, or Biomedical Science concentrations) and with the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Quillen College of Medicine (Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences).

Biomedical Health Sciences. The new Chair will be expected to continue the advancement of teaching and research within the department, as well as contribute to the development and growth of academic programs within the College.

Required Qualifications

* Terminal degree in an applicable Biomedical Science discipline (e.g., Cell or Molecular Biology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology) or in a related field with extensive (5+ years) relevant experience

* Faculty record consistent with appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor

* Significant experience in teaching

* Leadership experience, including service in key roles such as program director or on high-level committees

* Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining extramurally funded research

* Ability to maintain an active research and teaching program

* Strong capacity for collaborative work within the College and University

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working across multiple biomedical disciplines

* Proven ability to foster interdisciplinary research or teaching initiatives

* Significant leadership experience in academic or research settings
