Position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

The Registered Nurse functions as a Case Manager for the JHQVAMC Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV), HUD-VASH Program. The HUD-VASH program is a collaborative effort, supported through HUD Housing Choice Rental Assistance Vouchers and VA's provision of intensive case management services. The primary goal of HUDVASH is to move Veterans and their families out of chronic homelessness.
The HUD-VASH RN is responsible for providing competent, evidence‑based care to assigned patients. The nurse provides patient management, care coordination, and discharge/disposition planning for inpatient and outpatient settings. The nurse coordinates care with multiple providers across all levels and sites of care.
The HUD-VASH RN uses the nursing process and evidence-based practice to collaborate with the HUD-VASH and HCHV teams and larger Team (family/caregiver, internal and community-based services involved in providing care to the patient) in developing the patient-driven holistic care plan for life. The nurse is responsible for collaborating with services internal and external to VA to facilitate care transition in order to effectively meet the patients' needs.
The nurse provides patient and family health education with a focus on self-management, prevention, and wellness, based on the patient's goals. The nurse demonstrates leadership by serving as an advocate for patients, a team player to colleagues as he/she continues to enhance his/her own and the team's professional growth, development and practice.
The nurse contributes to team-based assessment of the ability of individual Veterans to live independently in the community, as part of eligibility determination for Veterans with complex medical and psychological risk factors. The nurse provides recovery-oriented and Housing first services, with the goal of establishing the Veteran independently in the community, at the Veteran's highest level of functioning.
The HUD-VASH RN is responsible for driving to outpatient settings to facilitate care and outreach of Veterans in the community.
The staff nurse has developed and acquired the clinical experience and knowledge to be proficient in nursing skills, practice, and procedures and typically has developed a specialized nursing practice. The staff nurse manages clinically complex patients and situations related to patient care assignments, as well as clinical and administrative processes affecting the work group/area. He/she can function independently, is self-directed in clinical practice and career development, and is actively involved in the functions and activities of the unit/work group/team.
It is expected the nurse provides safe, effective, quality care to patients and possesses the management skills necessary to function as charge nurse.
