Hours:

Part‑time, second shift (approximately 4 pm – midnight) with weekend opportunities. Third shift (midnight to 8:30 am) may have limited availability.

• Checks guests in and out each time they enter/exit the main entry of the shelter building.
• Completes required paperwork and inputs data into the computer to maintain records and generate client lists, including HMIS.
• Turns away clients who are barred, intoxicated or otherwise ineligible for shelter accommodations and attempts to refer them to other shelters.
• Assists or leads in provisioning snacks, meals, and other needs.
• Engages in cleaning activities, light preparations for breakfast, and ensures curfews, lights out and bed assignments are followed.
• Engages well with individuals experiencing distress, crisis, and conflict, making wise decisions quickly.

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
• Ability to respond to emergencies quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper corrective action.
• Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
• Distance of travel is usually within the same building.
• Limited physical effort is required for walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
• Work is performed in a housing shelter where physical discomforts may be associated with temperature variations, odors, violence, noise, disease, and/or dust under mildly unsafe and uncomfortable conditions.

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• One year of experience performing security or social service work preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
