SUMMARY

This position manages accounts payable, accounts receivable, and requisition/receiving functions. The Controller ensures timely and accurate monthly and annual financial reporting and reconciliation of financial accounting systems and is additionally responsible for accounting procedures, systems development and project implementation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manages all accounting functions including but not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, billing and purchasing.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and implements accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure all financial reports are prepared in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prepares and presents financial statements and related reports including but not limited to balance sheets, income statements, cash-flow reports, budgets, and variance analysis.
  • Manages yearly audits, monthly balancing of books and monthly account reviews; prepares and presents monthly financial statements / metric reporting.
  • Coordinates annual independent audit and preparation of annual tax documents.
  • Directs budget preparation, reviews budget proposals, annual operating budget, pension audit, financial audit, for Internal, State, and Capital.
  • Prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification for proposed budgets.
  • Provides management with timely reviews of the organization’s financial status and progress.
  • Oversees accounts payable function including but not limited to compliance with expense reporting, capitalization policy, and purchase order procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with statutory payroll, property tax and Unclaimed Funds reporting.
  • Oversee the preparation of weekly, adjusting, and month-end journal entries, monthly account reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Review and process requisitions and purchase orders in the Workplace system on an ad hoc basis.
  • Manage the reconciliation of the General Ledger to the PC Scale, Accounts Payable, and Fixed Asset Systems.
  • Produce ad-hoc reports using Great Plains Accounting system, Excel, and Management Reporter.
  • Maintain high performance standards for internal and external customer service.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in financial accounting and/or public accounting.
  • Ability to develop strong professional relationships with all levels of employees, management, and external vendors to maximize performance, problem solving, and results.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Ability to work with all levels of management.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a customer service focus.
  • Read, write, and speak English.
  • Highly detail oriented and organized with the ability to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Computer skills as required to fulfill job requirements, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Great Plains Accounting software.
