As a special educator, you will be required to meet all Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) guidelines and state mandates.
As a special educator, you will be influential in students' lives, since students will apply what they learn to their future endeavors.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and objectives to ensure student progress.
- Differentiate instruction and modify curriculum, assignments, assessments, and instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support student access to the general education curriculum in inclusive settings.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student performance using formal and informal data to guide instruction and monitor progress.
- Maintain accurate and timely special education documentation, including IEPs, progress reports, evaluations, and compliance records.
- Participate in evaluation team meetings, annual reviews, reevaluations, manifestation determinations, and eligibility meetings.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, programming, and educational needs.
- Implement positive behavior supports and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) when appropriate.
- Foster a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment that promotes student independence, self-advocacy, and social-emotional growth.
- Coordinate and collaborate with related service providers, counselors, administrators, and outside agencies to support student success.
- Utilize evidence-based instructional practices and assistive technology to improve student achievement and access.
- Support students with transition planning, including post-secondary education, employment, independent living, and community participation beginning at age-appropriate levels.
- Prepare students for state and district assessments by providing approved accommodations and ensuring compliance with testing protocols.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with federal and state regulations.
- Participate in professional development activities and remain current on special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Supervise paraprofessionals and provide guidance regarding instructional strategies, accommodations, and student support.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator or Director of Special Education.
