Experienced Ophthalmology Front Desk Specialist

OPTX Rhode Island is seeking an experienced Ophthalmology Front Desk Specialist to join our established and busy ophthalmology practice.
Prior front desk experience in an ophthalmology or eye-care practice is REQUIRED. This is not an entry-level position.
We are looking for an experienced professional who already understands the unique demands of an ophthalmology front desk and is comfortable working in a fast-paced medical environment.
The right candidate will have hands-on experience with medical insurance, insurance verification, patient scheduling, collecting copays and deductibles, EMR/practice-management systems, and the daily workflow of an ophthalmology practice.
Nextech Practice Management and EMR experience is strongly preferred.
What You’ll Do- Verify medical insurance eligibility, benefits, and patient coverage
- Accurately enter and maintain patient insurance and demographic information
- Understand and communicate patient copays, deductibles, and financial responsibilities
- Collect copays, deductibles, outstanding balances, and other patient payments
- Schedule and coordinate ophthalmology appointments
- Register and check patients in and out efficiently
- Manage a busy physician and provider schedule
- Answer and manage patient telephone calls professionally
- Work within our EMR and practice-management systems
- Communicate effectively with physicians, technicians, billing staff, optical staff, and other members of the practice
- Maintain accuracy while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Provide patients with a professional, welcoming, and polished experience from the moment they contact our practice
Applicants must have prior ophthalmology or eye-care front desk experience.
We are specifically seeking candidates with experience in:
- Ophthalmology or eye-care practice operations
- Medical insurance verification and eligibility
- Understanding medical insurance benefits
- Copays, deductibles, and patient financial responsibility
- Patient scheduling and registration
- EMR and practice-management systems
- Handling a high-volume medical front desk
- Professional patient communication
Nextech experience is a significant plus.
Candidates with only general receptionist, retail, or non-medical customer-service experience will not meet the experience requirements for this position.
