The Assistant Vice President of Training and Development will lead the strategic direction and execution of all learning initiatives across our grocery retail operations and corporate functions. This position will build a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence, with a focus on service with gratitude, ensuring employees are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and leadership capabilities to thrive in a fast‑paced, customer‑driven environment.
Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and execute a comprehensive learning and development strategy aligned with business goals and operational needs.
- Champion a learning culture that supports employee growth, retention, and performance across all store formats and corporate functions.
- Oversee the creation and rollout of training programs throughout the organization.
- Collaborate with other departments to identify training needs, skill gaps, and build career pathways within the retail environment.
- Lead high‑potential development programs to strengthen leadership pipelines.
- Develop, collaborate, and maintain key training‑related industry, college/university, regulatory/governmental relationships.
- Define measurables to determine training effectiveness and business impact.
- Use data insights to continuously improve learning content and delivery methods.
- Lead and manage the T&D team.
- Ensure training content reflects brand values, customer service standards, and operational excellence.
- Manage vendor relationships and oversee budget allocation for learning initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, Business, or related field.
- 10 years of progressive experience in training and development, preferably in retail or consumer‑facing industries, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Success in developing and leading large‑scale learning initiatives and change management programs in a primarily non‑exempt, multi‑location and multi‑state retail environment.
- Demonstrated success in elevating both technical skills and company culture through strategic initiatives.
- Experience in effectively furthering the company's mission through developed programs.
- Experience with digital learning platforms, learning management systems (LMS), instructional design, and performance metrics.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
- Ability to influence cross‑functional teams and drive change.
