The Role
We are seeking a skilled Technician II to contribute to maintenance operations at one of our key sites. The role encompasses vehicle diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance with increasing complexity. The successful candidate will diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, assist with major component rebuilds, and ensure vehicles meet stringent safety and compliance standards. You will be a vital part of our transportation operations, maintaining fleet reliability and safety for students and communities.

You perform diagnostics with modern tools, complete complex electrical and AC repairs, and maintain thorough documentation.
Your workspace is organized, you follow procedures, and consistently deliver quality repairs.
- Vehicle Diagnostics & Repair:
Diagnose malfunctions and perform vehicle repairs across steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions, and related components in accordance with all relevant Federal, State/Provincial, and local guidelines. - Assist Tech I’s with rebuilding engines, transmissions, and differentials as assigned by the manager.
- Perform test drives during preventative maintenance inspections to identify driver‑reported issues and confirm repairs after service.
- Arrange and obtain inspections and approvals for all major repairs before release from the maintenance facility.
- Identify and report additional maintenance or repairs necessary during assigned work; coordinate with technicians of higher qualification levels if needed.
- Perform work assigned by manager or lead when supervised.
- Record time spent, parts used, and repairs conducted on the appropriate form.
- Perform road calls and on‑the‑road repairs as assigned.
- Maintain a safe, clean, productive, and efficient work area, complying with all relevant federal, state, provincial, and local guidelines and company housekeeping standards.
- Notify Lead Technician of unsafe maintenance conditions, practices, or vehicle misuse.
- Work assigned shift and overtime as needed (AM/PM).
- Minimum of two to four years of medium/heavy truck fleet mechanic repair experience.
- Diagnostic, electrical, and AC skills are required.
- Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment.
- Previous fleet experience with familiarity with diesel and gasoline systems.
- Possess the recommended minimum hand tools for a medium, heavy duty, and diesel technician.
- Ability to use good judgment and decision‑making skills.
- Valid CDL license (must obtain within the first 90 days of employment).
- ASE certification in brakes, suspension, engine, electrical, A/C, or a Master School Bus and/or Master Truck Technician.
$34 – $37 an hour
