The YMCA of Northern Colorado is seeking a role model for role models, a fearless guide for staff members who work tirelessly to provide children with care each and every day, well, most days.
The position requires someone with energy, a happy demeanor, and strong leadership skills to nurture, support, and empower our children each morning and afternoon while also coordinating our staff team with a balance of empathy, accountability, role modeling, and hands‑on work.
You might be the right candidate if you are a communicator, a listener, a patient answerer of questions, detail oriented, flexible, calm, and able to ride the whitewater rapids of the job. You work well with both administrative and programmatic work, people and numbers, concrete policies and human nature. You can speak eloquently to parents and staff while also having the skill to send a child into a fit of giggles.
Responsibilities- Independently lead and supervise children in small and large group activities.
- Adhere to program standards including CDHS licensing, safety, and cleanliness.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Follow and ensure implementation of YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
- Maintain an open, friendly, professional relationship with staff, parents, participants, and community members.
- Maintain confidentiality of YMCA issues, incidents, and records.
- Be on time for all shifts; be flexible to accommodate unexpected schedule changes, including full days.
- Provide leadership and support to Program Leaders, Program Aides, and Volunteers.
- Practice positive guidance and preventative discipline techniques to participants with natural consequences in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Support the director in planning, preparing, and implementing programming and in maintaining required records and other necessary information according to YMCA standards.
- Provide leadership by being knowledgeable of specific activities, anticipating challenges, and identifying tasks that need to be completed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Age 21 years or older.
- Driver qualified with a clear MVR.
- And have at least one of the following:
- A four-year degree in a related field OR
- An associate’s degree or sixty (60) semester credit hours from an accredited college or university and three (3) months (455 hours) of experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children over the ages of four (4) years who are not related to the individual OR
- 3,185 hours of experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children over the ages of four (4) years who are not related to the individual OR
- A current early childhood professional credential level 2 or higher.
- Staff are expected to become certified or supply documentation of current certification in CPR and First Aid (these courses can be completed through the YMCA).
- Staff will be expected to work well on a team, communicate well with youth, parents, and colleagues, and be committed to high‑quality programming.
- Documented experience includes experience working directly with school‑age children in such areas as Sunday school, Scouts, sports, or babysitting.
