This position does not qualify for benefits. Salary is based on experience and per our Extra Duty Salary Schedule Column III ($2,050).
Weld RE-5J School District is accepting applications for a Marching Band Color Guard Instructor at Roosevelt High School. This is a seasonal, supplemental position.
Position Purpose
The marching band color guard instructor will work with the Director or Bands, instructional staff members and students to ensure a positive experience for students and successful public performances. The position will accomplish this through attendance at summer instruction (prior to the start of the school year), after-school and weekend rehearsals and performance events of the RHS bands. The candidate will instruct students in proper color guard fundamentals, movement technique, equipment skills, choreography, and performance excellence while coordinating instruction in both large and small group rehearsal environments.
The marching band color guard instructor shall enforce and adhere to the policies, rules and guidelines of Weld RE-5J School District and the band program to which they are associated.
Experience:
- Must be experienced working with marching bands and color guard programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of color guard fundamentals, equipment techniques, choreography, and performance instruction
- Experience teaching flag, rifle, and sabre techniques preferred
- Demonstrated management and leadership skills
- Ability to exercise good judgment in making decisions
- Proven ability to carry an assignment to its completion
- Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks associated with the duties and responsibilities listed below.
- Attend summer band rehearsals. Dates and time TBD by the Director of Bands
- Attend all rehearsals during the course of the season
- Attend performances, football games, competitions and public appearances as needed by the Director of Bands
- Evaluate members' abilities and design instruction and choreography accordingly
- Work closely with the Director of Bands and other staff members to develop a coordinated visual performance that enhances the overall marching band production
- Instruct members in color guard fundamentals, equipment handling, dance, movement, and performance technique.
- Teach and reinforce proper safety procedures related to the use of color guard equipment
- Assist with developing, teaching, and cleaning choreography throughout the marching season.
- Manage all equipment necessary for rehearsals and performances, including maintenance, repair, inventory, and acquisition recommendations, ensuring students are properly equipped.
- Recruit potential color guard members while retaining current members
- Other related duties, as assigned, to assist the Director of Bands prepare students for home games, competitions and public appearances
- Follow all policies of Weld RE-5J School District and the band program to which they are associated
