Position DetailsBroadband Technician II – Perform intermediate to complex installations, disconnects, and service changes for residential customers, including FTTH (Fiber to the Home RFoG and GPON). Responsibilities include video service, HSD Services, and home phone service, moderate troubleshooting from tap to customer devices, underground and aerial construction, splicing, repairing and maintaining fiber and coax cable. The role requires knowledge of telecommunications practices.
Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, the selected individual must reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from the Berthoud, Colorado warehouse at 266 Basher Dr Unit 4, Berthoud, CO 80513.
Shift: Tuesday through Saturday, 8 am–5 pm with on‑call rotation.
You may be hired at levels Broadband Technician I, II, or III depending on skills and qualifications. Please see the respective postings for minimum qualifications.
Responsibilities- Perform intermediate and complex installation of cable wiring, hardware, and equipment from tap/MST to customer’s equipment for both fiber and coax delivery methods for single, multi‑family, and commercial dwellings.
- Inspect and correct NESC safety violations for new builds, new service drops and legacy facilities.
- Coordinate underground drop burial with contractors and in‑house crews, submit and pickup permits from government agencies, and update job status.
- Inspect work for construction and government standards and verify serviceability of new customers.
- Perform connects (new and reconnects), disconnects, upgrades, downgrades, relocations, additional outlets, fiber connections, and hardline cutovers; install or remove equipment such as converters at single or multi‑unit dwellings.
- Use test equipment (locators, TDRs, FDRs, OTDRs) to identify and repair signal strength issues; interpret system maps and calculate signal loss.
- Climb poles, ladders, towers, or other structures and use a bucket truck if necessary.
- Work per quality control guidelines and regulatory requirements (OSHA, FCC, NEC, NESC).
- Monitor and record system and drop data; log all required information on work orders, surveys, and referrals.
- Promote company services and educate customers on usage, add‑on services, and channel lineups.
- At least 1 year of basic technical telecommunications experience or honorable discharge from current/prior military service.
- Over 6 months of fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, installation, or switch training.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Compliance with TDS attendance guidelines.
- Successful completion of customer‑specific requirements, including background checks.
- Availability for on‑call/standby responsibilities and occasional travel; willingness to work overtime.
- Pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum upon hire.
- Maintain DOT requirements for operating vehicles with combined GVRW over 10,000 lbs.
- Strong work ethic; reliable and responsible with team orientation.
- Practical knowledge of computer applications or burial construction.
- Familiarity with company products and services.
- Organizational skills and ability to multi‑task with minimal instruction.
- Customer service and sales skills, with effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Physical ability to dig, lift, and climb; lifting up to 50‑100 lbs as required.
- Successful completion of the SCTE Broadband Premise Technician course.
- SCTE Service Technician Certification (Technical Foundation, Customer Service, Troubleshooting) or SCTE BDS Certification; or NCTI Installer Technician Course.
