FLSA Classification: Non Exempt, Part Time Salary Range: $15/hr Reports to: Nature Center Superintendent Date: May 2026 SummaryUnder the supervision of the Nature Center Superintendent, the Front Desk Personnel performs general reception, clerical, and customer service duties.
Essential Duties- Greet each member of the public entering the Nature Center.
- Inform the public about upcoming Nature Center programs.
- Answer phone and take messages for staff.
- Schedule field trips.
- Schedule facility rentals.
- Keep calendar up to date.
- Register clients for Park District programs.
- Perform clerical duties as assigned by Nature Center Superintendent.
- Take inventory of and stock Nature Center resale items.
- Clean and maintain reception area.
- Conduct some minor animal maintenance.
- Run occasional errands for Nature Center-related events.
- Maintain a change fund.
- Run daily reports to be turned in with deposits.
- Order supplies when requested.
- Must attend Nature Center meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Part time, may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Work environmentEmployee’s general work area indoors is a smoke-free environment with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting. Employee may be required to work outdoors during various weather conditions, including, but not limited to, cold, heat, snow, wind, rain, etc. Outdoor environment includes a wooded area with uneven walking surfaces.
Physical demandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; bend; kneel; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear; taste and smell; and carry materials. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required
Additional eligibility requirements- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Able to multi-task and still maintain a professional demeanor.
- Spanish speaker is a plus
