Base Compensation for 2026/2027 Academic Year: $63,770-$113,632/annually (9 months). Compensation placement based on education and related teaching/work experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Guided Academic Pathway (GAP) Advisor provides coaching and intervention geared toward academic progress and success in the STEM disciplines by addressing advising, student retention, and completion needs of students. The GAP advisor provides support in the coordination and advising of a specialized support program or academic service areas. GAP Advisor oversees the opportunities and challenges related to transition, progress, success, and intervention.

This Advisor should also collaborate with campus stakeholders on programming geared toward enhancing student engagement, and a student-centered environment that promotes learning and goal attainment. The position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide intentional advising and referral for students in the Mathematics and Natural Science disciplines; serve as an agent of the Registrar and authorize course withdrawals, adds, and drops, as needed.
  • Assist Math students on academic warning, probation, or suspension; recommend the best educational path for degree completion.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on petitions and amendments to student's success; monitor academic progress; maintain student files and records.
  • Assist with high school transcript evaluations to ensure alignment with JJC courses.
  • Identify patterns in interrupted (stop out) student degree completion (withdrawal, probation, course failures) and develop strategies to support student retention.
  • Develop monthly GAP reports highlighting student progress via the intentional academic advising model utilizing data from the academic intervention software.
  • Provide ongoing training for faculty and staff on retention and intervention strategies.
  • Manage the data collection and assessment of Mathematics and Natural Science support programs.
  • Refer at-risk/high-risk students and students with personal or life concerns to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities or the Center for Mental Health and Wellness, as needed.
  • Collaborate with the academic Chairs and/or Dean to support outreach efforts to recruit students in the discipline at internal and external events/fairs.
  • Organize outreach campaigns to provide support for students in the discipline cohort; work in collaboration with the Communication Center to assist in the development and delivery of campaigns, as needed.
  • Assist administration in coordinating specialized support programs or academic services; duties include academic advising, supporting the intake process for students utilizing the services, data collection using student retention software, reporting, and assessment.
  • Hold monthly meetings with the Dean, Department Chairs of Math and Natural Science, and program coordinators as needed.
  • Hold membership on the College Readiness Committee and Placement Subcommittee.
  • Become thoroughly familiar and comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned; available to travel to other campuses; some evenings and weekends are required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's Degree in Mathematics.
