Salary and Benefits:
In accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the Board of School Inspectors of School District 86, Will County, Illinois, and the Council #86 of the American Federation of Teachers – Local 604 of School District #86 (see Teachers Contract).

Maximum 10 years of full-time Certified Teaching Experience

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the building principal, the classroom teacher is to create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation in accordance with each student’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.

Qualifications
  • Professional Educator License with Self-Contained General Education Endorsement or required endorsement.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in leadership, public and community relations, and academic competence.
  • Effective behavior management skills.
  • Ability to structure a classroom to maximize student learning.
  • Effective communication skills with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and texts used.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • To implement all district policies as they relate to the classroom.
  • Guarantee every student shall receive an equal opportunity for education.
  • Teach English Language Arts, social science, mathematics, science, health (art, music, and P.E. when applicable) to students in a classroom, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of School Inspectors, and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to present material to students.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available time for instruction.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare reports as needed and required.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program.
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping a student solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Seek assistance from or through the building principal or other support personnel to improve the instructional program or to solve specific problems.
  • Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and learning centers.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service professional development opportunities.
  • Requisition instructional materials and supplies as required.
  • Attend all meetings as required, such as faculty, parent-teacher conferences, etc.
  • Prepare for, conduct, and attend parent-teacher conferences as required.
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day.
  • Administer group standardized tests in accordance with state and district testing protocols.
  • Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Maintain a commitment to ongoing professional development.
