Position: 2026-2027 Part time Non-Instructional Paraprofessional - Preschool or Kindergarten

Part time Non-Instructional Paraprofessional – Preschool or Kindergarten –  – Notre Dame School, Clarendon Hills – Position available:
August 2026.

Position Purpose

Under the direct supervision of licensed staff members, the Instructional Assistant will assist licensed professional staff in meeting instructional goals and objectives that have been developed for each child.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as a positive role model of the Catholic faith through words, deeds, demeanor, dress, and actions both within and outside the classroom.
  • Understand and adhere to all tenets of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, religion, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
  • Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
  • Assist professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests, and assessments.
  • Assist in classroom preparations and develop strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
  • Assist with record‑keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
  • Assist with classroom behavior management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and keep students on task.
  • Assist students in non‑instructional areas such as supervising lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor duty, and other related tasks.
  • Accompany students on field trips for supervisory purposes.
  • Construct, copy, distribute, and use educational materials as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion and achievement of ISP/IEP objectives.
  • Assist teachers in planning, designing, implementing, and assessing high‑quality At‑Home Learning lessons using Seesaw, Google Classroom, or other electronic platforms.
  • Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
  • Carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Perform fundamental arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division as needed to assist students.
  • Use personal computers and software applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees, and others.
  • Report work orally or in writing to his or her supervisor as required.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Consistently arrive on time on days established by the school principal.
  • Enhance lessons using available technology.
  • Communicate with all constituents, including school administration, the pastor, parish priests, colleagues, students, parents, and prospective parents.
  • Use standard office equipment such as SMART boards, personal computers, telephones, copiers, and fax machines.
  • Perform other related tasks assigned by the principal.
Education and Experience
  • Preferred: A current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL), Illinois Substitute License, or ELS (PARA); not required.
  • Preferred:
    Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education; not required.
Physical Abilities
  • Work in a standard school building environment.
  • Work outdoors during outdoor student activities.
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to walk up and down multiple flights of stairs on a regular basis.
  • Physically able to lift up to 20–30 pounds if needed.
Hourly Range

$15.00 – $23.00 (final hourly rate determined at the local level based on years of experience, education, and professional licensure).
