Physical Education Teacher – JW Eater Junior High ()
Position Type:
Licensed Secondary Teaching – 6th thru 8th/ Physical Education
Under the direction of the Building Principal/Director of Special Services/Director of Curriculum, the teacher will plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students.
General Qualifications- Possess a Bachelor's Degree (Education) or related field. Illinois Teaching Certificate.
- Understanding and experience with curriculum design, planning and instruction.
- Strong communication skills (written and oral).
- Supervise students in a variety of school related settings.
- Monitor and evaluate student outcomes.
- Develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
- Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
- Plan, organize and provide instruction based on Common Core State Standards.
- Administer informal and formal assessments.
- Incorporate district initiatives within instruction.
- Evaluate student progress against instructional objectives.
- Demonstrate knowledge of child growth and development, instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessments, diagnosis, and research related to learning.
- Provide written feedback to students.
- Maintain accurate, efficient, and effective records for instructional and non‑instructional purposes.
- Manage classroom organization.
- Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community.
- Work cooperatively with the administration and staff to schedule meetings.
- Participate in district-wide and building committees related to educational and employment matters.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Plan and demonstrate practices reflecting knowledge of content, prerequisite relationships and instructional practices.
- Seek knowledge of students' backgrounds, cultures, skills, language proficiency, interests, and special needs.
- Develop instructional outcomes of appropriate rigor suitable for students, including multiple learning activities and assessment methods.
- Leverage available resources to enhance own knowledge and student learning.
- Coordinate knowledge of content, students, and resources to design learning experiences aligned with instructional outcomes and Common Core Standards.
- Ensure lesson/ unit has clear structure and engages students.
- Align assessment plan with instructional outcomes and standards.
- Interact with students in a friendly and respectful manner.
- Develop classroom culture focused on learning engagement.
- Manage instructional groups and materials consistently following routines.
- Monitor behavior and respond to misbehavior appropriately and respectfully.
- Ensure classroom safety and accessibility, appropriate arrangement, effective use of resources.
- Communicate instructional purpose clearly; explain directions and procedures.
- Use high‑quality questions/prompts to elicit thoughtful responses.
- Align lessons with outcomes, standards, and pacing.
- Use assessments to support instruction, provide timely feedback.
- Modify lessons when needed and adapt to student questions and interests.
- Reflect on lessons and suggest improvements.
- Communicate with families and engage them in instruction.
- Participate in professional community and school/district events.
- Maintain positive relations with colleagues, administrators, parents.
- Engage in professional development and share information.
- Accept and act upon feedback from supervisors and colleagues.
- Demonstrate ethics and professionalism.
- Supervise students or aid supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Effectively communicate with parents, colleagues, administration and educational community.
- Instruct students effectively and capably.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Use web‑based programs, e‑mail, and technology effectively.
- Indoor classrooms: student noise, lawn mowing, music, food odors, mowed grass and possible communicable diseases.
- Outdoor schoolyard and grounds, field trips: temperature variations and mowed grass.
