Elementary Teacher – 3rd Grade (2026‑2027)

Location: Joliet Public Schools District 86 – KEITH, JOLIET, Illinois.

Position Type: Elementary Teacher.

Salary and Benefits: Provided under the collective bargaining agreement between the Board of School Inspectors of School District 86 and the American Federation of Teachers – Local 604.

Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the building principal, the classroom teacher is responsible for creating a flexible elementary grade program and fostering a positive learning environment. Responsibilities include establishing rapport with students, motivating academic and personal growth, and building relationships with parents and staff.

Qualifications:
  • Professional Educator License with Self‑Contained General Education Endorsement or Required Endorsement.
  • Demonstrated leadership, public‑community relations, and academic competence.
  • Effective behavior‑management and classroom‑organization skills.
  • Strong communication skills with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of curriculum design and instructional materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implement all district policies in the classroom.
  • Ensure every student receives equal educational opportunities.
  • Teach English Language Arts, social science, mathematics, science, health, and applicable arts/PE courses.
  • Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and provide individualized, small‑group instruction.
  • Employ varied instructional strategies and present material effectively.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to maximize instructional time.
  • Establish and maintain behavior standards to create a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluate academic and social growth, maintain records, and prepare required reports.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means regarding progress.
  • Identify student needs and collaborate with staff to address health, attitude, or learning problems.
  • Seek assistance from the principal or support personnel to improve instruction or solve problems.
  • Create effective learning environments through displays, bulletin boards, and learning centers.
  • Maintain professional competence via in‑service professional development.
  • Requisition instructional materials and supplies as needed.
  • Attend required meetings (faculty, parent‑teacher conferences, etc.).
  • Supervise students at out‑of‑classroom activities during the school day.
  • Administer group standardized tests per state and district protocols.
  • Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development.
Physical Demands:

Regularly stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. Requires clear vision and focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made.

Work Environment:

The classroom environment is primarily indoors with occasional outdoor activities. The noise level is quiet to moderate. Employees may experience interruptions and deadlines; in‑district and out‑of‑town travel may be required for training or duties.
