The Director of Behavioral Program (BHS) is responsible for providing academic leadership in developing and supporting teaching and learning at East-West University (EWU). The Director will bring expertise in pedagogy, educational technology and accessibility to support faculty in the development and enhancement of BHS program and courses. The Director is a faculty member who reports directly to the Provost and is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of the program area which may or may not be degree-granting.
The Director is expected to teach three courses per quarter. As front-line manager, the Program Director at EWU are the primary academic salesperson for program’s faculty, staff, and students. The Directors must interpret and present information and arguments that accurately reflect program intent, structure, assessments and outcomes of all interested constituencies and generally assure that all aspects of the program serve to advance the institutional mission, goals, and purposes.
- 1. Earned doctorate or terminal degree in Behavioral Sciences and Business from an accredited institution
- 2. Minimum of three years of teaching experience at the university level.
- 3. Must show evidence of substantial teaching ability, professional achievement, and research and service.
- 4. Must be able to organize activities that are likely to result additional academic achievement and the improvement of teaching effectiveness.
- 5. Must have experience in teaching first-generation, low-income and international students.
- 6. Proficiency in using the LMS system:

- 7. Overseeing the governance of BHS and Business departments
- 8. Managing departmental office services
- 9. Maintaining currency of and developing BHS a Business courses and programs.
- 10. Enforcing departmental and university policies
- 11. Recruiting, selecting, continuing, and dismissing faculty (full-time and part-time adjunct faculty)
- 12. Making faculty work assignments and overseeing faculty performance
- 13. Making merit, and promotion recommendations
- 14. Ensuring intellectual vitality and promoting faculty development
- 15. Attending to student requirements and needs
- 16. Enforcing (and approving exceptions to) departmental and university policies
- 17. Monitoring departmentally sponsored student groups and activities
- 18. Leading department’s efforts to recruit and retain students
- 19. Collecting aggregate data regarding student progress and success (assessment and retention)
- 20. Communicating with external publics
- 21. Managing relevant department finance and facilities including labs
- 22. Managing data accurately and securely
- 23. Encouraging institutional support (grants and gifts)
