Reliability & Improvement Engineer Position Overview
The Reliability & Improvement Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations at the Joliet, IL site. This position leads the implementation of reliability, mechanical integrity, quality assurance, and continuous improvement work processes to support business objectives and maintain the site’s license to operate. In addition to reliability and improvement responsibilities, this role serves as the site IT focal point, coordinating with corporate IT and providing basic on‑site support for networked systems.
Key Responsibilities- Support site maintenance activities through SAP and established maintenance work processes
- Serve as the Mechanical Integrity & Quality Assurance (MIQA) focal point
- Act as the site reliability focal point, driving reliability strategies and best practices
- Lead and manage site improvement initiatives, including RCIs, capital projects, and expense projects
- Track and update project progress in Ecosys
- Actively contribute as a member of the BTIP Team, supporting broader business transformation and improvement efforts
- Serve as the site liaison to corporate IT
- Provide basic troubleshooting and local support for computer and phone systems, network connectivity, and security camera systems
- Assist with system updates and issue escalation as needed
- B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
- Demonstrated experience leading or supporting improvement projects (capital and/or process-related)
- Basic understanding of IT infrastructure, including networks, computers, phones, and security systems
- Experience in an operations and maintenance environment preferred
- Strong problem‑solving and continuous improvement mindset
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- Effective communicator across operations, maintenance, engineering, and IT teams
- Detail‑oriented with strong documentation and follow‑through skills
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating with cross‑functional teams
