Job Summary
The sales associate will support the manager in assuring the smooth operation of the Gift Shop. They will be responsible for providing a service-oriented atmosphere, maintaining cleanliness and order and filling in staples (candy, soda, flowers, greeting cards, sundries, balloons, helium). Also responsible for candy orders and assuring that balloons are in stock as needed.
Essential Functions- Exhibit strong communication skills while dealing with visitors, patients and employees at the hospital. Each gift shop employee acts as an ambassador for the hospital, providing a warm, caring environment for everyone that enters and is very knowledgeable about the hospital, providing directions and assistance to the public.
- Physically open and/or close the shop. This consists of placing all movable displays and gondolas in and out of the lobby area.
- Set up, operate and cash out the register at the end of a shift, prepare bank deposit and prepare change for the day.
- Maintain the cleanliness and order of the shop by filling in merchandise, candy, soda and flowers as needed, managing housekeeping and engineering concerns such as vacuuming and helium.
- Provide a service-oriented atmosphere by giving sales assistance, gift wrapping, delivering items to patients.
- Coordinate candy orders and keep balloons in stock.
- Demonstrates the ability to create a positive interaction with the customer.
- Demonstrates positive communication with people of different cultures, values and beliefs.
- Demonstrates the ability to acknowledge customer concerns and take corrective action.
- Demonstrates compliance with identified customer service behaviors.
- Provides escort to customers when necessary.
- Participates in Department/Hospital-wide activities which improve processes and/or outcomes.
- Utilizes resources to maintain and improve self development and knowledge.
- Complies with licensure and/or certification requirements.
- Participates in annual competency assessment.
- Demonstrates fiscally prudent use of equipment and supplies.
- Utilizes charge process for supplies/equipment.
- Completes projects/assignments within projected time frames and expectations.
- High School Required or GED Required.
- Retail Sales, Customer Service Required.
