Program Coordinator Enhanced Surveillance

JOB TITLE: PROGRAM COORDINATOR ENHANCED SURVEILLANCE

The Program Coordinator, Enhanced Surveillance (Program Coordinator) plans, organizes, coordinates, and conducts Enhanced Surveillance activities, including syndromic surveillance, wastewater surveillance, surveillance for diseases of seasonal importance (including respiratory diseases and endemic vector-borne disease), and other enhanced or non-traditional surveillance activities. Supervises program staff in all areas of Enhanced Surveillance. The Program Coordinator is responsible for generating surveillance reports to inform the prevalence and distribution of diseases routinely and during outbreaks.

Participates in outbreak and control activities. Provides training and establishes strategic priorities in the areas of syndromic, wastewater, and seasonal surveillance, as well as other non-traditional surveillance data sources.

• Monitors data in non-traditional surveillance systems (e.g., syndromic, wastewater) and develops reports and dashboards to report on findings.
• Develops and validates methods and procedures for non-traditional surveillance.
• Monitors data quality in non-traditional surveillance systems and works with partners to improve completeness and accuracy.
• Oversees and directs enhanced surveillance for seasonal diseases including respiratory illness (e.g., influenza, COVID-19, and RSV) and West Nile Virus.
• Assists with immunization data analysis and reporting, particularly for respiratory immunizations.
• Keeps the Director fully informed of pertinent information and follows through on assignments.
• Explores and develops methods for communicable disease forecasting and modeling.
• Analyzes and interprets data to identify epidemic trends and makes recommendations for strategies related to policy development, prevention, and program planning.
• Supports informatics and data modernization initiatives, such as electronic case reporting.
• Identifies new data sources for enhanced surveillance.
• Maintains an enhanced surveillance procedure manual.
• Collaborates with local, state, and federal partners in enhanced surveillance initiatives, including participation in relevant communities of practice.
• Supports quality improvement projects.
• Participates and represents the agency at specified meetings and responds to inquiries from the public, media and health care professionals.
• Available for on-call duties.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Master's degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or related Public Health concentration.
• Five (5) years of experience in disease surveillance and control or epidemiologic data analysis.
• Two (2) years of supervisory and/or managerial experience in relevant public health programs
• Proficient in R, SAS, or Python
• Proficient using Microsoft Office

• Experience in communicable disease investigation.
• Advanced knowledge of statistical methods

• Working knowledge of communicable disease regulations
• Comprehensive knowledge of theories, principles and practice of epidemiology and biostatistics in the field of public health
• Proficiency in the use of electronic databases and statistical software programs used for epidemiological analysis
• Proficiency in the use of computer software used for mapping

• Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups
• Skill in planning, developing and completing complex assignments with minimal direction.
• Accurate judgment in making decisions and in meeting new problems
• Ability to work independently Ability to accurately and effectively respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the public health community
