Founded in 1982 as Joliet Area Community Hospice, Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care is an independent, nonprofit healthcare provider licensed in 11 counties in northwest Illinois. We provide exceptional serious illness care, hospice care and grief support for adults and children.

The majority of our direct patient care is in the field with Lightways team members providing care in the home, nursing facility or assisted living facility. We also have a 24-bed inpatient unit in Joliet. Non-clinical staff are based out of our Joliet administrative offices.

HR Generalist

The HR Generalist supports a variety of human resources functions, including onboarding, benefits and leave administration, employee relations, performance management, and policy administration. This role serves as a primary resource for employee HR inquiries and helps ensure a positive and compliant workplace.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the administration of day-to-day human resources programs and initiatives.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employee and applicant HR-related questions.
  • Assist with recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and new hire onboarding.
  • Administer employee benefits, leave programs, and other HR processes.
  • Support performance management, including performance reviews and employee development.
  • Conduct employee relations activities, including exit interviews and issue resolution.
  • Coordinate employee engagement and team-building initiatives to foster a positive workplace culture.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local colleges, universities, and community organizations to support recruitment initiatives.
  • Represent the organization at college and community job fairs to promote employment opportunities and strengthen the employer brand.
  • Hybrid work schedule available upon successful completion of training.
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of human resources experience.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR certification preferred.
