We’re looking for a dynamic Area Sales Manager who thrives on leading teams, building relationships, and turning strategy into measurable success.
Position DescriptionThe Area Sales Manager creates value for our customers by recruiting, developing, and supporting a high-performing team of Account Managers and Account Management Trainees to enable opportunities from electrical professionals in (NE) Illinois and (NW) Indiana. This role embodies our mission and core values, serving as a leader who fosters growth, operational excellence, and strong customer relationships. The Sales Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth, expanding our base of medium-to-large electrical construction (and industrial) accounts, and ensuring our team delivers exceptional value to customers.

- Recruit, hire, and onboard Account Managers and Trainees to focus primarily on the greater Chicago market, ensuring strong cultural fit and alignment with company values and strategy.
- Coach, mentor, and develop Account Managers and Trainees, providing individualized support, nurturing sales effectiveness through emotional intelligence skills and product knowledge.
- Lead by example, guide team members through challenges and celebrate their successes.
- Collaborate with marketing, HR, operations, and accounting to ensure smooth processes and operational excellence.
- Set clear performance expectations and provide regular feedback to drive team and individual growth, also maintaining accountability for behavior and performance.
- Develop and implement strategies to grow the number and quality of accounts, with a focus on medium-to-large electrical construction projects.
- Monitor, analyze, and motivate team performance, using KPIs such as gross-profit thresholds and margins to guide decisions.
- Advance a culture of reliability by emphasizing accuracy in quoting, delivering, and invoicing, occasionally collaborating with other departmental managers to innovate solutions.
- Demonstrate compassion in all interactions, supporting employees, customers, and vendors through breakdowns, while prioritizing the company’s best interest.
- Promote training, teamwork, and psychological safety, encouraging maximum engagement and collaboration.
- Encourage resourcefulness, pursuing creative solutions for customers and vendors that will increase profitability and highlight our value as a partner.
- Travel between branches, as needed, to build strong relationships and support direct reports.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of sales team management experience in the electrical industry in Illinois, ideally in a project-based or commission-driven environment.
- Valid driver’s license, maintaining an acceptable driving record.
Starting salary between $100,000 and $175,000 per year. In addition, we offer an attractive benefits package that includes health insurance, dental, vision, life, and a robust 401k.
