Shop Floor Supervisor

Location: Joliet, Illinois, United States.

Job Summary

Under general direction, this entry‑level people management position will assist and support the day‑to‑day planning and organizing of a team at the facility. The incumbent will manage facility audits, inventory, budgets, and crew performance, including staffing, performance management, annual reviews, and time and attendance. The role may require outdoor work, multiple shifts (including nights, weekends, and overtime), and full‑time attendance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Solicit, assign, and monitor onsite vendors to ensure proper repairs are completed and costs are controlled.
  • Monitor expenses related to shop management to maintain the budget and identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency.
  • Maintain a safety culture by promoting a safe work environment in compliance with federal and state regulations; conduct safety meetings, mock OSHA inspections, and model safe work habits.
  • Inspect completed repairs to ensure equipment is up to DOT and company standards.
  • Perform personnel management tasks, including staffing, performance management, annual reviews, and time and attendance.
  • Monitor work in progress on the floor to ensure it is performed safely, correctly, and within standard repair times.
  • Perform daily operational tasks such as estimates, down‑unit reporting, and yard checks.
  • Ensure the team reaches and maintains goals set by leadership; train staff on service bulletins, OSHA compliance, and company policies.
  • Schedule inbound equipment and maintain estimated running time so repairs are assigned in order of priority and equipment status is updated to maximize utilization.
  • Monitor completion of all required repair campaigns and warranty procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure the work shift begins on schedule and assign work orders to technicians to maintain an orderly workflow that meets internal customer deadlines; manage cost per hour.
  • Shift schedule may vary based on location and business needs.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 1–2 years of related experience and 1–2 years of direct or indirect management experience.
  • Ability to act professionally.
  • Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas through various mediums.
  • Ability to capture and document relevant business information in an auditable, organized, and easily retrievable manner.
  • Ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move appliance up to 50 pounds).
  • Ability to form and manage effective teams.
  • Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE).
  • Ability to work individually and as a team.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction.
Compensation

The starting pay range for this position is $82,000–$103,000. The role may also be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volume in accordance with the company’s bonus and incentive plans.
