Job Overview

Symbotic is seeking an Automation Maintenance Technician II who will repair, calibrate and maintain our automated and robotic systems, including Automated Adapters, Vertical Lifts and robotic vehicles. The role involves becoming the system expert for mechanical, PLC, electrical and electronic subsystems, as well as operating and troubleshooting automated adapters used within our structure.

Responsibilities
  • Perform inspections on systems associated with Automated Storage and Retrieval System of automated robotic vehicles and Automated Adapters/Lifts.
  • Lead continuous operation by adjusting, calibrating, repairing, replacing or modifying system components.
  • Process and monitor the flow of the automated storage and retrieval system, through adapters, to achieve maximum throughput and cases per hour.
  • Troubleshoot automated robotic vehicle anomalies and stoppages using schematic and wiring diagrams and advanced test equipment.
  • Perform periodic system inspections within expected durations on all equipment and thoroughly document all actions and repairs, including parts used and labor.
  • Ensure quality maintenance and complete documentation via the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Communicate production impacting problems and suggested actions, including approximate time required for corrective and emergency maintenance to required team members.
  • Work in a dynamic environment and adjust priorities based on immediate business needs.
  • Clean equipment and remove replaced parts from work areas after repairs are completed.
  • Perform automated robotic vehicle recovery in the Symbotic Matrix select system, including working in restrictive environments.
  • Conduct minor utility work such as machining holes, cutting steel, aligning sensors, attaching Unistrut, and other related tasks.
  • Troubleshoot, calibrate, set up, and change tools on robotic arms.
  • Maintain continuous cleaning and adherence to 5S policies.
  • Perform Cell Operator functions as needed.
  • Complete any other duties assigned by leadership.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree and/or certification in electronics, automotive, automation, manufacturing or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with mechanical automation systems or equivalent education/training.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills and ability to follow electro‑mechanical diagrams.
  • Knowledge of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and experience troubleshooting PLC systems.
  • Proficiency in performing all inspection functions.
  • Ability to work independently of a supervisor, following procedures and manuals.
  • Must be able to operate and run automated systems.
Work Environment
  • Must climb steep stairs into the structure.
  • Regularly near railings high off the ground and work at heights up to 45 feet.
  • Work conditions may include temperatures ranging from 32 degrees to 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Safety equipment required: hard hat, safety vest, steel toes, eye protection, ear protection, fall protection gear such as a safety harness.
  • Frequent lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds and moving items weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Stand or walk up to 10–12 hours, frequently walking, reaching, kneeling, crouching, and climbing boxes and other equipment.
  • Must comply with all safety requirements and protocols, including lock‑out tag‑out and fall protection safety protocols.
