Founded in 1982 as Joliet Area Community Hospice, Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care is an independent, nonprofit healthcare provider licensed in 11 counties in Illinois. We provide exceptional serious illness care, hospice care and grief support for adults and children.

The majority of our direct patient care is in the field with Lightways team members providing care in the home, nursing facility or assisted living facility. We also have a 24-bed inpatient unit in Joliet. Non-clinical staff are based out of our Joliet administrative offices.

The Volunteer Manager is responsible for implementation of all elements of the Volunteer Program including but not limited to; recruitment of a broad range of volunteers that can fulfill multiple assignments; seeing to it that all the levels of training are carried out; supervision of volunteers incorporating guidance, support, direction and accountability. Responsibilities also include:

  • Develop and maintain volunteer training and orientation program.
  • Determine the need for volunteer services with the hospice team, patient, and family/caregiver.
  • Assigns volunteers to patients, the Inpatient Unit, front desk, and organizational events based on program needs and the volunteers’ interests and skills.
  • Supervise and evaluate volunteer’s performance in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Maintains volunteer statistics.
  • Maintains current volunteer personnel files and master volunteer list.
  • Reevaluates volunteer program, as necessary to ensure continued compliance.

Qualifications include Associate or Bachelor's degree in human services, social work, healthcare administration or related field preferred. Experience in volunteer activities and/or working with large groups. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Experience with Microsoft Office. Minimum of two years management experience.
