Founded in 1982 as Joliet Area Community Hospice, Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care is an independent, nonprofit healthcare provider licensed in 11 counties in northwest Illinois. We provide exceptional serious illness care, hospice care and grief support for adults and children. The majority of our direct patient care is in the field with Lightways team members providing care in the home, nursing facility or assisted living facility.

We also have a 24-bed inpatient unit in Joliet. Non‑clinical staff are based out of our Joliet administrative offices.

Gifting Specialist

The Gifting Specialist is a member of the Philanthropy Department, responsible for processing all donations, maintaining accurate donor records, and ensuring timely acknowledgment of gifts. This role is essential to supporting donor trust and sustaining the mission of compassionate end‑of‑life care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately process daily donations, including checks, online gifts, recurring contributions, tribute/memorial gifts, and event‑related donations.
  • Generate timely and personalized acknowledgment letters, tax receipts, and tribute notifications within one business day.
  • Maintain and update donor database (e.g. Donor Perfect), ensuring data integrity and consistency.
  • Assist with donor list segmentation and data pulls for mailings, campaigns, and stewardship outreach.
  • Support annual fundraising events, donor engagement activities, and memorial services as needed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in handling donor information and financial data.
Education/Experience
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent work experience in nonprofit, administrative, or development roles.
  • 2+ years of experience in gift processing, data entry, donor relations, or similar administrative role, nonprofit or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Experience with donor management software (e.g., Bloomerang, Salesforce NPSP, Raiser’s Edge, Donor Perfect, etc.) and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
