St. John’s Lutheran Church, located in the small rural community of Ashton, Illinois, is looking for a pastor to help lead us in our faith. We are amulti-generational, family-oriented congregation that has emerged from a strugglewith non-traditional teachings and continue to be committed tomoving forwardunder Biblical guidance. We are steadfast in our efforts to ensure our church thrivesby sharing the Word of God.

We are excited to hear the gospel and learn how tobetter share God’s word with others. We are a quaint community that offers supportto members of our congregation and to our community through various activities.

Responsibilities:
  • Preach the Gospel
  • Visit with as many members, shut-ins, and homebound as possible
  • Have active involvement with our preschool,Sunday school, and youth
  • Instruct the youth in their confirmation journey
  • Be present and involved with the community
Qualifications:
  • LCMC certified or is willing to become certified on the LCMC clergy roster in a timely manner,
  • Are ordained,
  • Are willing to preach the true Word of God, administer the sacraments, conduct public worship for both our congregation and our shut-ins, and provide pastoral care.

9.02. The Congregation Council shall be free to set the specific requirements for individuals to be considered for call as pastor in this congregation, so long as candidates are eligible to be included in the ordained clergy roster of the LCMC…..

9.03. Consistent with the faith and practice of the LCMC:

  • Every pastor shall:
    Preach the Word;
  • Administer the sacraments;
  • Conduct public worship;
  • Provide pastoral careand
  • Speak publicly to the world proclaiming God’s love for the world.

b. Every pastor with a congregational call shall:

  • Offer instruction, confirm, marry, visit the sick and distressed, and bury the dead;
  • Minister to all schools and organizations of this congregation;
  • Install regularly elected members of the Congregation Council; and
  • With the council, administer discipline.

c. Every pastor shall:

  • Seek out and encourage qualified persons to prepare for the ministry of the Gospel and strive to extend the Kingdom of God in the community, in the nation, and abroad;
  • Impart knowledge of this church and its wider ministry through distribution of its periodicals and other publications; and
  • Endeavor to increase the support given by the congregation to work of the LCMC and other Lutheran organizations.

9.04. The specific duties of the pastor, compensation, and other matters pertaining to the service of the pastor shall be included in a letter of call, drafted and approved by the Congregation Council.

9.10. The pastor shall keep accurate parochial records of all baptisms, confirmations, marriages, burials, communicants, members received, members dismissed, or members excluded from the congregation. These records will remain the property of the congregation. All parochial records shall be submitted to the Congregation Council on an annual basis.

9.11. The pastor shall be a voting member of the congregation that has extended the letter of call. In a parish of multiple congregations, the pastor shall hold membership in one of the congregations.
