Position Highlights- Number of beds on unit: 18
- Patient population (age, diagnosis, specifics about unit): 18 years and older. Cardiac arrhythmia, chest pain, CHF, pacemakers, ablations, heart attacks (MI), and cardiac interventions.
- Nurse to Patient ratio: 1:4-5
- Department culture and resources: CVCU is a fast paced, high patient turnover unit. We admit and discharge multiple patients each day. The culture focuses on teamwork and ensuring patients’ needs are met through close collaboration with interdisciplinary partners. Resources include a charge nurse, heart failure nurse, cardiac rehab, case manager/social work, respiratory, and pharmacy.
- Frequent nursing skills/equipment used: Skills: assessment, IV, managing cardiac drips, post‑procedure care, discharge teaching, completing admissions. Equipment: IV pumps, SCD machines, bedside monitors, cardiac monitoring, oxygen, ambulation equipment, lift equipment.
- Registered Professional Nurse (RN) licensed by Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 1 year – American Heart Association (AHA).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA).
- Education:
High School Diploma or GED;
Associate's Degree (preferred). - Minimum 2 years inpatient RN experience.
Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintains up‑to‑date and accurate documentation of nursing care to ensure integration of information for the healthcare team. Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards, based on patient and family needs.
Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. Provides constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and collaborates with colleagues to expand knowledge.
Identifies learning needs and initiates appropriate solutions. Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. Maintains a clean and tidy work environment. Maintains hospital and unit‑based competencies. Conducts hourly rounding on patients. Proactively seeks opportunities to assist internal and external customers.
The compensation range is $33.32 per hour to $57.31 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts, and compensation model.
