Job Summary

The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for managing, delegating, coordinating and providing nursing care through utilization of the nursing process. The role requires effective communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary health care team members. The nurse assumes responsibility for assessment, treatment and care of patients of all ages, applying developmental, cognitive, biopsychosocial and cultural considerations to plan and implement treatment. The nurse maintains clinical competence and meets defined standards of care for the nursing practice area.

Responsibilities
  • Systematically provide nursing care to patients within the framework of the nursing process and established standards of practice.
  • Integrate principles of patient safety in the provision of direct nursing care and medication management.
  • Adhere to established system-wide communication standards and processes.
  • Participate in designated forums addressing patient care, education, policy, procedures, safety and clinical outcomes.
  • Demonstrate accountability for maintaining and improving professional knowledge and skills related to the area of practice.
  • Document age‑specific competencies on addendum.
  • Provide positive interaction and communication with patients, families, and visitors of diverse cultures, values and beliefs.
  • Acknowledge and address customer concerns, taking corrective action as needed.
  • Comply with identified customer service behaviors and provide escort to customers when necessary.
  • Utilize resources to maintain and improve self‑development and knowledge.
  • Participate in departmental or hospital‑wide activities that improve processes and/or outcomes.
  • Comply with licensure and certification requirements and participate in annual competency assessment.
  • Demonstrate fiscally prudent use of equipment and supplies; utilize charge process for supplies/equipment.
  • Complete projects or assignments within projected time frames and expectations.
  • Respond promptly to patient call lights and other requests for assistance.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the hospital dress code policy.
  • Communicate effectively using AIDET principles and respond to emails within twenty‑four hours.
  • Demonstrate a positive, courteous, and respectful attitude toward patients, families, visitors, and coworkers.
Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Nursing required;
    Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum one year of Med/Surg experience preferred.
  • Nationwide certification in area of practice preferred.
  • On‑call required for OR, PACU, and Cath Lab.
  • Required BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP certifications; additional certifications for specific service lines as outlined.
  • Complete oncology chemotherapy/biotherapy certificate and fundamentals of administration within specified time frames for Infusion Center duties.
