Director, Safety and Environmental Compliance—Hazardous Materials Operations

We’re looking for a builder and steady hand—someone who can champion rigorous compliance in hazmat transportation while elevating environmental and safety performance at chemical facilities. You’ll set direction, standardize best practices, and keep multiple locations aligned with federal and industry standards.

Your impact

Establish and sustain a best-in-class Hazmat Transportation Safety program aligned with FMCSA/PHMSA requirements.

Advance Environmental, Health & Safety programs across chemical manufacturing, distribution, and hazardous materials sites.

Lead audit readiness and confidently host regulators and assessors.

Drive down incidents using disciplined investigation and coaching.

Scope of responsibility

Hazmat Transportation Safety (FMCSA / PHMSA)
Driver Qualification Files Drug & Alcohol programs

Hours of Service compliance DOT inspections and CSA BASIC monitoring

Hazmat driver training and regulatory compliance

Chemical Industry Environmental Compliance SARA Tier II reporting

Hazard Communication programs EPA inspections and complianceSPCC plans

Chemical storage and handling regulations

Regulatory Audit Leadership DOT auditsEPA inspections OSHA inspections

Industry compliance programs (ACD Responsible Distribution or similar)
Multi-Site Safety Leadership Roll out and maintain transportation and facility programs across multiple terminals/facilities and across multiple states.

Incident Investigation & Risk Management Root cause investigations

Safety program development

Driver coaching and accountability programs

Data-driven safety performance monitoring

Salary $75,000/year - $95,000/year (based on experience)
