Position: Territory Manager - Personal Lines (Greater Chicagoland)

Territory Manager – Personal Lines

Eligibility & Work Authorization

This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Understand the strategic and operational goals of the assigned territory and individual distribution partners to identify mutually beneficial solutions, leveraging data, analytics, local market information, and competitor insights.
  • Proactively identify and implement actions to achieve territory goals.
  • Lead the new business and transfer process, including identification of new transfer and new business appointments; set expectations, manage commitments, and ensure delivery of production.
  • Leverage tools and resources such as Salesforce, Seismic, dashboards, and reporting to increase operational efficiency.
  • Gather distribution partner feedback and share continuous improvement opportunities with business partners across the company.
  • Collaborate with personal lines, farm geography partners, and other Nationwide counterparts—such as claims and servicing—to solve problems, educate, promote, review sales practices, and provide input.
  • Complete the annual planning process for each distribution partner, document agreements in Salesforce, and hold partners accountable to those agreements.
  • Partner with Product, Marketing, and other business units to identify and act on opportunities within the territory.
  • Lead portfolio management meetings with distribution partners to ensure alignment with territory goals; monitor portfolio data and analysis to drive profitability and revenue, focusing on both top- and bottom-line growth.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate studies in general business, insurance, sales, marketing, or a related field; a degree is preferred.
  • Typically eight to ten years of sales or sales‑management experience, with prior property‑casualty or financial services experience preferable.
  • Carrier‑side sales‑management experience; a combination of carrier and agency‑side experience is especially ideal.
  • Proven ability to lead through influence and build results‑oriented teams.
  • Strong customer‑focus: ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with distribution partners.
  • Clear accountability: ability to set responsibilities, monitor work, and measure results.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Situational adaptability: proven ability to adapt interpersonal behavior and adjust quickly.
  • Complexity management: ability to uncover root causes of issues and evaluate risks and benefits of solution options.
  • Drive results, persuade, collaborate, and act with courage.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
Reporting

Reports to the Sales Associate Vice President or Vice President; this is an individual‑contributor role.

Job Conditions

Frequent travel throughout the territory is required, including possible overnight stays. The role demands regular in‑person engagement with agency partners to maintain a strong field presence. The position is exempt; overtime is not eligible.
