Job Description:The Biology/Chemistry lab assistant will assist with laboratory prep by cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment.

Minimum Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour (Position is FWS Eligible)
EssentialJob Duties and
Key Responsibilities:
- Abide by Safety Procedures & Policies as detailed in the JJC Chemical Hygiene Plan.
- Prepare laboratory materials for all Biology and Chemistry courses.
- Prepare media for Microbiology Labs, including operating the autoclave and practicing aseptic techniques.
- Maintain aquariums, plants, lab animals and other living specimens.
- Maintain cadavers.
- Maintain laboratory equipment & supplies, including cleaning, storage & inventories.
- Maintain classrooms and general lab clean‑up.
- Prepare chemical solutions. Observe proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Work 10–20 hours per week, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Enrolled at JJC for 6 or more credit hours.
- GPA of 2.0 or above.
- Complete previous coursework in Biology and/or Chemistry.
- Must be able to work well with others.
- Must be able to communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
- English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
- Demonstrated multicultural competence.
Some moderate lifting required.
Working Conditions:Duties are performed indoors in the usual office and/or outdoor environment.
Scheduled WeeklyHours:
This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. During summer and holiday breaks (Winter/Spring), may work up to 28 hours per week with supervisor approval.
