Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Summary
Under close supervision, this position is responsible for performing basic maintenance, service, and repair of J.B. Hunt tractors and other equipment. Technicians must be able to complete all fleet maintenance processes and ensure that units meet J.B. Hunt specifications at all times. This position may require working outdoors, in the elements, and across multiple shifts, including nights and weekends, with overtime;
full‑time attendance is required.
- Demonstrate foundational technical knowledge of preventative maintenance, replacement of parts or components, and basic repairs as they pertain to tractor maintenance (fuel system, battery, engine, drive train, onboard computer, transmission, air brake systems, and FHWA inspections).
- Work independently while seeking assistance as needed.
- Understand and effectively follow all shop safety procedures.
- Maintain professional communication with J.B. Hunt personnel and customers at all times.
- Accurately perform basic repairs to company and manufacturer specifications, complete work orders, and demonstrate proficiency in company requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 18 years of age with at least 1 year of experience in semi‑tractor maintenance and repair, training, or military‑equivalent experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Willingness to work outdoors, in the elements, and across multiple shifts, including nights and weekends as required.
- Basic tools required to perform the role; tools must be supplied by the employee. Employees without personal tools may obtain them through a toolbox purchase program.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least 1 year of experience with DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Physical ability to lift or move equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to multitask and read documents in English.
- Capability to wear appropriate protective gear and work attire.
- Self‑motivation and basic active listening, computer, deductive reasoning, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Teamwork and independent work capability.
The expected starting pay range is $27.66 – $37.59 per hour.
RelocationRelocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates located outside a 50‑mile radius of the job.
Employment LevelsApplicants may be considered for I, II, or Sr. Level Tractor Technician, depending on verified years of experience and position availability.
CompensationFactors affecting starting pay may include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. The position may be eligible for annual bonuses and incentives based on profitability or volumes, in accordance with the company’s bonus and incentive plans as applicable.
