Under close supervision, this position is responsible for performing basic maintenance, service, and repair of J.B. Hunt tractors and other equipment. Technicians must complete all fleet maintenance processes and ensure that units meet J.B. Hunt specifications at all times. The role may require working outdoors, in varying weather conditions, and across multiple shifts, including nights and weekends, with overtime, and requires full‑time attendance.
Key Responsibilities- Demonstrate foundational technical knowledge of preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and basic repairs for tractor systems, including fuel system, battery, engine, drivetrain, onboard computer, transmission, air brake systems, and FHWA inspections.
- Work independently and seek assistance as needed.
- Understand and effectively follow all shop safety procedures.
- Maintain professional communication with J.B. Hunt personnel and customers at all times.
- Accurately perform basic repairs to company and manufacturer specifications, complete work orders, and demonstrate proficiency in company requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines.
Shift schedules may vary based on location and business needs. The position may include nights and weekends.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- 18 years of age or older.
- At least 1 year of experience in semi‑tractor maintenance and repair and/or training and/or military equivalent experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Willingness to work outdoors, in varying weather conditions, and across multiple shifts, including nights and weekends.
- Basic tools required for the role (provided by the employee at most locations; tool purchase program available for those without tools).
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least 1 year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brake systems.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
- Multitasking capability.
- Reading ability in English.
- Proper protective gear/PPE use.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic active listening skills.
- Basic computer skills and comfort working with a computer.
- Basic deductive reasoning skills.
- Basic organizational skills.
- Basic time management skills.
- Self‑motivation.
- Starting pay range: $27.66 – $37.59 per hour.
- Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates located outside a 50‑mile radius.
- Potential eligibility for annual bonus and incentives based on company profitability or volumes.
