Building Automation Controls Field Supervisor
Location:
Local travel throughout the Chicago and Northern Illinois area. (Project-Based Field Role
-Chicago Metro Area and Surrounding) Contract to hire Pay rate: /hr
Our client is seeking a Building Automation Controls Field Supervisor for a permanent, full-time opportunity supporting the successful execution of controls and automation projects. The Field Supervisor will play a critical leadership role in managing field personnel, coordinating project delivery, and ensuring technical excellence across all phases of project work—from point-to-point system verification to customer training. This position requires strong technical acumen, excellent communication skills, and a hands-on leadership approach.
The Field Supervisor will work primarily at project sites and act as a direct liaison between engineering staff, contractors, and project managers.
• Lead the completion of assigned project sites, ensuring accurate installation, programming, and system checkout. Johnson Controls, Metasys, Honeywell, Tridium, Niagara 4, N4.
• Perform point-to-point equipment verification and troubleshoot hardware issues.
• Create and verify controller programs and graphical user interfaces (GUIs).
• Provide customer training on system functionality and graphical interfaces.
• Document all progress through daily logs and checkout books
• Maintain regular communication with project managers, customers, and senior leadership
• Supervise, schedule, and mentor field engineers and technicians
• Participate in hiring, performance reviews, and staff development (with managerial approval)
• Act as project lead, coordinating with contractors and subcontractors to meet deadlines
• Oversee safety protocols and participate in project safety meetings
• Assist with project planning, quoting, scheduling, and execution as needed
• Associate's degree or equivalent technical experience in controls, HVAC, electrical systems, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, control logic, and programming.
• Ability to read and interpret submittals, specifications, and mechanical drawings.
• Leadership experience or the ability to effectively manage teams in a field environment.
• Comfortable working independently on job sites and traveling to project locations.
• Must be willing to participate in on-call rotation and field assignments.
• Proficiency with BACnet, Modbus, Lon Works, or related protocols is a plus.
