Job Summary

Under the general direction of the supervisors, performs a variety of functions relating to Library duties

Head Librarian/Director

• Prairie Cat Barcode Certification received within 6 months of hire date is a requirement for this position.

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are necessary to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the job.

• Ability to understand the Dewey Decimal system of classification.
• Ability to work independently for extended periods as well as in cooperation with other library employees.
• Ability to utilize commercial software programs to organize, store, and transfer information electronically.
• Ability to work with and understand MARC format.
• Ability to follow library procedures.

• Associate degree preferred or equivalent experience
• 1-2 years of computer experience
• 1-2 years of customer service

• Ability to read and interpret bibliographic information.
• Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one situations to the public and other employees of the organization.
• Ability to speak fluent English.
• Ability to speak fluent Spanish is desirable.

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and understand decimals.
• Ability to perform these operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume and/or distance.

• Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to use good judgment within established guidelines.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a wide range of the public.
