Role Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and compliance-driven Truck & Trailer Repair Shop Manager to lead daily shop operations with a strong focus on DOT & FMCSA regulatory compliance, safety standards, and operational efficiency.

This role is critical in ensuring all company equipment remains roadworthy, audit-ready, and fully compliant with federal and state regulations.

The ideal candidate is technically strong, operationally disciplined, and deeply knowledgeable in DOT inspection standards, FMCSA maintenance requirements, and preventative maintenance programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all daily repair shop operations including diagnostics, repairs, preventive maintenance, and emergency breakdown response.
  • Ensure full compliance with DOT & FMCSA regulations, including:
    • DVIR compliance and documentation
    • Maintain audit-ready documentation for roadside inspections, safety audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Supervise and manage technicians, mechanics, and shop personnel.
  • Implement preventive maintenance schedules to reduce CSA violations and out-of-service incidents.
  • Monitor and control parts inventory, vendor relationships, and repair costs.
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA safety standards and shop safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with Safety & Compliance departments to reduce violations and improve fleet safety scores.
  • Identify recurring mechanical issues and implement corrective action plans.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service for internal drivers and external clients.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience managing a truck and trailer repair facility.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • FMCSA compliance requirements
    • Preventive maintenance programs for commercial fleets
  • Experience with heavy-duty trucks, trailers (reefer, flatbed, step deck, dry van), air brake systems, suspension, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to interpret federal regulations and implement compliant shop processes.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation abilities.
  • Experience preparing fleets for DOT audits and inspections.
  • Knowledge of fleet management systems and maintenance tracking software preferred.
