Job Overview

The Landfill Foreman position is responsible to assist with coordinating landfill operations and employees to ensure that performance and productivity goals are met while maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies and company policies/procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Assist management with the daily activities of landfill staff
  • Monitor and maintain landfill to ensure all safety and compliance requirements are met or exceeded
  • Work with operators to ensure established production and quality control standards are met
  • Oversee operation of landfill working face and/or construction areas and complete necessary daily reports
  • Track certifications of landfill staff and provide training as needed
  • Continuously monitor the equipment to ensure proper operation and minimal down time and preventive maintenance or repairs are being completed timely and efficiently
  • Clean waste from equipment body and wheels or tracks
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, federal and agency regulations and company policies and ensure the same of others
  • Professionally interact with internal and external customers to maintain a positive work atmosphere
  • Ensure all other operating and labor tasks assigned are completed timely
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility
  • This position will not manage employees
Skills & Abilities
  • Must meet requirements for Heavy Equipment Operator role
  • Ability to operate all landfill equipment proficiently
  • Must be able to read and understand landfill plans and set grades using surveying equipment
  • Must be familiar with compliance requirements regarding landfill operations
  • Ability to work on a computer as needed
  • Must be dependable, a self-starter, and able to identify and perform daily operational requirements
Experience & Knowledge
  • 1-2 years experience operating heavy equipment
  • 1-2 years of landfill experience or equivalent
  • Previous foreman or management experience preferred
  • Surveying and GPS experience preferred
  • Construction background a plus
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 35 lbs
  • Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 50 lbs
  • Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
  • Continuously working outside
  • Frequently working in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
  • Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
  • Occasionally stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
  • Frequently climbing and/or balancing
  • Occasionally sitting
  • Frequently standing/walking
Additional Working Conditions
  • Must be at least 19 years of age
  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste
  • Ability to travel between offices, as required
  • Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language
