Overview
This role accelerates business values by delivering ice to customers in articulated vehicles (tractor‑trailers) that require a CDL Class A license. In markets without tractor‑trailers, a ClassB license will be sufficient. Drivers are assigned a delivery route or transport truckloads of ice to specific customer locations. When not assigned a route, this position trains newly hired drivers (ClassA, ClassB, and Non‑CDL).
All drivers must be registered with the U.S. Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
- Assist supervisors with training, inventory counts, safety communication, and other operational initiatives.
- Maintain the CRM Dashboard, updating customer files to ensure efficient deliveries.
- Participate daily in the Daily Visual Management process; review DVM results with other drivers.
- Perform road tests on driver candidates and complete required paperwork.
- Train new drivers on equipment, policies, and procedures; complete all training paperwork.
- Operate and maintain a clean company truck; conduct pre‑/post‑trip inspections and comply with DOT hours of service and regulations.
- Unload, deliver, and rotate ice at customer locations safely and courteously.
- Produce invoices and complete all required paperwork.
- Maintain driver tools (handhelds, printers, handcarts, hand trucks) in good condition.
- Report all accidents and injuries immediately to the supervisor.
- Pick up merchandisers and other equipment as directed.
- Follow all SOPs and processes.
- Perform additional duties assigned by management.
- 10 pallets per day; 210 bags per day (7‑lb bags); 2,100 bags per week.
- 21,000 lbs per day; 105,000 lbs per week (10.5tons daily, 52.5tons weekly).
- Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Maintain constant alertness and safe working manner.
- Accurately gauge time and distance.
- Store and recall instructions quickly.
- Concentrate and perform tasks requiring high cognitive function and judgment.
- Respond promptly to sudden changes, emergencies, or alarms.
- Demonstrate caring, committed, and safety‑focused attitude.
- Possess fast reflexes, unimpaired coordination, and rapid response to stimuli.
- Take prompt and appropriate action in operating conditions.
- Internal: CSM, CSR’s/Dispatchers, Location Manager (if at spoke), Lead Driver, Forklift Operators.
- External:
Customers and warehouse personnel.
This position requires a ClassA CDL driver's license. The driver must maintain a clean driving record and drive safely and courteously at all times.
Supervisory ResponsibilityNo supervisory responsibility. Assists management in training new employees, evaluating candidates, and maintaining data in the CRM.
Education & Experience- High School education or GED.
- Three years of previous route delivery driver experience; prior lead driver experience preferred.
- Minimum one year as a driver in a similar vehicle.
- Basic math and exceptional customer relations skills.
Physical Requirements
- Drive in stressful environments and all weather conditions.
- Unload, load, and rotate product in merchandisers; lift up to 40lbs.
- Work may involve sitting, standing, walking, and using hands for tasks.
- Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
